This is a Meadow Fritillary (Boloria b. bellona), feeding on a goldenrod. This image is unaltered and unmanipulated. It is cropped only. I have been trying to get a goood photo of this species for two years. It is very common, but I have had a hard time getting one to hold still. Many are torn up with alot of wing damage. Taken in Randolph County, WV on 9/15/10 on Shavers Mountain.
